A&M Regents Authorize Tarleton State to Pursue New Academic Programs, Approve Tenure and Promotions
Dear Colleagues,
Ever forward, ever onward — that’s our continued path at Tarleton State University, and today’s Board of Regents meeting is a clear sign that we’re headed in the right direction.
Achieving academic excellence through innovative instructional practices, strategic program expansion, and a robust academic and technological infrastructure is a key part of our strategic plan. The unwavering support from The Texas A&M System Board of Regents and Chancellor John Sharp is a testament to their steadfast belief in our mission.
In line with our goal to prepare students for long-term careers in fast-growing fields, the regents gave us permission to seek Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approval for five new academic programs: |
- Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience
- Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Medicine
- Specialist in School Psychology
- Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling
- Doctor of Physical Therapy in Physical Therapy

Additionally, the regents have given us permission to commission a feasibility study and hire a planning dean to explore the potential establishment of a College of Osteopathic Medicine.
As our university expands access and opportunity, increasing our footprint is essential. To that end, the regents approved negotiations for three strategic properties around our Stephenville campus, paving the way to construct a multi-story residential housing facility within the area as documented in the current master plan.
Our focus remains to be the premier comprehensive university in the nation. The massive cranes on our campuses represent progress toward that vision to be a leader in student success, teaching and research.
I am pleased to also announce the approval of our recommendations for faculty tenure and promotion.
