The Texas Social Media Research Institute (@TSMRI) and Tarleton Veterans Services are honoring service members and military families with free Girl Scout cookies Monday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Individuals who are military connected are invited to come by the Department of Communication Studies on the O.A. Grant Building third floor for their box of cookies.

April and May are significant months for military families. April has been designated the Month of the Military Child, and May is Military Spouse Appreciation Month.

“When you’re deployed, you feel like the entire world stops because you’re focused on nothing but service,” said veterans office Assistant Director Stephanie Kittelson, who has been both a service member and a military spouse. “You know that the world is moving, but you’re not witnessing the movement. When you come back, you see the changes that took place when you were away.

“The military family keeps the world spinning to ensure the service member has a home to come back to. They keep the peace at home while chaos might be happening overseas.”

Dr. Anthony Edwards, Director of Tarleton Online and a military spouse, said honoring the sacrifices of service members and their families is important. He said his daughter has learned the value of service from Girl Scouts and from seeing her mother serve.
