Tarleton Women Take Fourth at Spring Debut Rodeo in Odessa

Five goat tyers finished in the top 10 of the event to lead the Tarleton State University women’s rodeo team to a fourth-place finish in the Odessa College National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association stop over the weekend.

The OC was the opener for the NIRA Southwest Region spring season.

Keni Labrum posted a first go 7.2 time and followed with a 7.0 in the finals for second place in goat tying. Teammate Tori Brower was third with her 6.7-7.5–14.2, Mary Risse was fourth with her two-head 14.3, Rayme Jones’ 14.6 was fifth, and Timber Kelly flashed a 14.8 on two runs for seventh.

Barrel racer Bryanne Cude contributed a six-place finish with her 29.02 clocking on runs of 14.15 and 14.87.

Tarleton’s men took 10th in Odessa, led by fourth-place efforts from bareback bronc rider Payton Lackey, saddle bronc riders Ira Dickinson and Gus Gaillard, and team roper Garrett Dickey.

Lackey finished with a two-head 147.5, including a 76.5 in the finals; Dickinson’s 157.5 total featured an 80.5 in the short go, Gaillard tied Dickinson with rides of 79 and 78.5, and Dickey flashed two sub-7-second runs for a two-calf 13.4.

Bull riders Riggen Hughes and Jacob Carige each made the finals with first-round 73s.

Both Tarleton teams returns to action March 23-25 at the Ranger College Rodeo in Sweetwater.
